Here are some of my thoughts.
Our lives revolve around relationships and emotions; they are everywhere around us and literally triggered by everything. I believe that if emotion, feeling, and perception are things that make us who we are, then why not express that in the things we do? Why not allow others to see how we interpret and connect with our surroundings? This could, in turn, help others develop and express themselves better than they knew they could.
My art in response is very expressive . My family life, like many others’, has many complexities which has certainly affected who I am along with the way that I interpret the world around me. Typically, I create art based on relationships and the dynamism that they are designed with. Whether dark or uplifting, I try and create reflective work in that moment; it holds a sense of truth. This is what I am digging for in others and myself, a sense of sincere truth.
In my undergrad I found it easiest to express myself through printmaking and photography. In result, printmaking and bookmaking was my concentration. I am very conscious of color use and enjoy working with a great variety of styles. Overall, it is my objective to allow people to understand and relate to my emotion and to use my work as a gateway into their own emotion and personal relationships.
Professionally, I take on a similar viewpoint; I like intellectual work. Really thinking about concept and the overall message being given should not just be surface level - it is way more exciting to give pieces some depth. I am a fan of work that is fresh and am looking to expand my knowledge into the cutting edge world that we live in.
